Childrens Classes
A range of dance classes for children from 3 years old up.
We have classes in Ballet, Tap, Modern, Jazz, Musical Theatre, Disco Freestyle, Ballroom and Latin American.
Not all genres are available for all ages
3 and 4 Years Olds
You have a choice of “Baby” classes for children of 3 & 4 years old in either Ballet, Tap, Disco/Freestyle Street and Ballroom and Latin American or there is also a “Combo” class with tap, ballet and modern combined in one.
All classes have an emphasis on fun, developing natural movements through mime and song into dance movements, improving self-confidence, coordination, helping children make friends and learn how to take turns and share, as well as improving their communication skills. Children take part in our annual Christmas Show.
There are various classes for this age group with a choice of days and times.

5 & 6 Year old Beginners /Pre-Primary
5 and 6 year olds can again choose various dance subjects, called Preprimary Ballet, Tap and Modern, or 5-6 years Disco/street or 5-6 years Ballroom and Latin. Classes start to expand what has been learnt in the baby classes with more complex dance movements, helping develop body awareness and more precise dance techniques. Each dance style is now split up into it’s own individual subject. Children take part in an annual Christmas Show.

7 – 8 Year old beginners
You have a choice of dance subjects and days. Most of the classes now are 45 minutes long or an hour and again will expand your child’s existing knowledge. All classes now will be working for ISTD examinations as below.
There is also now the opportunity for those already dancing here at ACS to start Drama and Singing classes too, working towards musical theatre shows and displays which are put on throughout the year.

Ages 9 and above
For Ballet, Tap or Modern if aged 9 and over It’s best to call us,as the rest of the classes are graded on ability or exams already passed rather than just age so we will need to advise you. Disco and Ballroom have specific classes for 9 plus students.
For the Jazz classes you do need to be already at a certain level of modern and ballet to start, see Jazz section. Jazz is not suitable for complete beginners and must be taken in rotation, starting with Bronze then proceeding to silver and then gold.

Drama and Singing Classes (Musical Theatre)
As a guide the Drama and Singing classes are for 7-18 years old for those already studying dance with us.
Both classes must be taken together in addition to an existing dance class because choreography will be part of our musical theatre numbers. All classes work on show work predominantly with non show term classes covering acting for stage and camera, improvisation, stage combat and script work for Drama and Singing classes working on technique vocal warm-up exercises and building a musical theatre repertoire from popular shows.
As well as our main shows, Musical theatre students have an additional cabaret evening and musical production reviews for just the Drama and Singing Classes. Students and parents should realise the increased level of commitment required to be part of these classes, near to the shows there are daily rehearsals after the end of term for a full week up to the production. Theatre trips are organised periodically to go and see West end shows. This class only takes new members at certain times of year between shows, please enquire if interested.
